Delosperma echinatum 'Pickle Plant'

  • Description
  • Light/Soil/Water
  • Hardiness
  • Delosperma echinatum, also known as the 'Pickle Plant', is a unique and attractive succulent plant native to South Africa. It is a small, evergreen shrub with thin wiry stems that hold pairs of barrel-shaped leaves. The leaves are light green and covered in short, white, bristly hairs, which give them a spiny appearance. However, the hairs are actually soft and harmless.

The Pickle Plant is a drought-tolerant plant and easy to care for, which makes it a good choice for gardeners in a variety of climates.

In spring, the Pickle Plant produces masses of small, daisy-like flowers in shades of white, yellow, or pink. The flowers are typically about an inch in diameter and have five petals

Plants may be shipped bare root.
  • It prefers full sun to light shade.

Use a sharp well draining soil, and allow all excess water to run off every time you water.

Water it once or twice a week during the growing season (spring and summer) and reduce watering during the winter.

This plant is non-toxic and pet-friendly.

  • USDA Zone 7 a to 10b: from 0 °F (−17.8 °C) to 40 °F (+4.4 °C).
